Today was my first day at PVCC in 8 years. Interesting enough I am the oldest student in my communication class. I did feel a little out of place at first but most of the students were friendly & really didn't stare at me for too long because I was obviously the oldest. I was nervous because I wondered if the world was still the same world I use to know where the young & old grew further apart. Not that I am super old or anything but the question came to mind when I was told that the 20 somethings would feel less reluctant in associating with me because of the lack of common interests. That wasn't the case today. As a matter of fact my age didn't seem to phase them much. They didn't isolate me from their everyday discussions of music or movies. I don't know if it is because I understand them more, perhaps because I have kids, or because their generation feels so close to the generation I was familiar with, not much has changed in the past 15 to 20 years. Attitudes appear a little stronger & more over inflated in self esteem but I guess that is good. it appears that ageism was not.
